Acclaimed Chicago Ramen Chain to Open Evanston Location on Thursday

When Northwestern University students return to Evanston to start classes next month, they’ll have a new option for ramen as Furious Spoon will open its first suburban location on Thursday night. The restaurant/bar will be open until 2 a.m. on Friday and Saturday and feature the same Japanese ramen that chef Shin Thompson and his crew have been serving at their four Chicago locations. The Evanston location also features a 40-seat patio where customers can slurp ramen and drink mocktails, cocktails, beer, and sake, according to a news release. There are a handful of spots in Evanston that serve ramen. Furious Spoon maybe in the best position to attract a younger customers with hip-hop blaring from the speakers, graffiti, and custom woodwork. The main dining room has space for 50 and the restaurant, overall, takes up 2,000 square feet. Furious Spoon opened its first restaurant in 2015 in Wicker Park and has since added locations in The Loop, Logan Square, and Pilsen. There’s plans for Boystown and another north of that location in Lakeview (part of a new food hall). Fresh noodles and spicy broths have fueled the restaurant’s expansion. When the restaurant opens at 5 p.m. on Thursday, they’ll be giving away bowls of free ramen to the 100 customers. That’s how they hook diners. Are the suburbs ready for Furious Spoon?
